Jersey Artist Samuel Carney has been selected by the Forum des Arts to take part in the annual three-day arts festival in St. Malo. From Friday 6h – Sunday 8th May, Sam will be exhibiting his work alongside 300 amateur and professional artists from all over France.

A recent graduate in Illustration from the Arts University Bournemouth, Sam has recently returned to Jersey to pursue his creative practice full-time, after having completed a Post-Graduate Drawing Intensive at the Royal Drawing School Central Studio. Sam said:

“I work primarily with drawing, making studies from life and using them alongside photographic reference to create finished pieces. I love the simplicity of the tools needed to make drawings and the range of marks and expressions you can achieve from these simple tools never stops amazing me! The Forum des Arts will be a great opportunity for me to meet other young contemporary practitioners and the weekend promises a real variety of exhibitions and performances so alongside showing my own work I’m definitely planning to enjoy all that is on offer as a spectator as well”

Jersey Arts Trust has partnered with Forum des Arts for the past four years, and has sent a selection of Jersey artists to St. Malo to participate in the city’s arts festival. Lucie Marie Holt, who was the Artist selected in 2015 to take part said:

“It was like an amazing adventure, not only was I exhibiting alongside some very talented artists, I was part of a bigger event happening all around St Malo. I visited all of the exhibition spaces and watched as many performances as I could; I even met up with some French friends that I met at Hamptonne in the 2013 French-Jersey artist exchange. All in all I had a wonderful experience.”

The event is coordinated by the city of Saint-Malo and runs via the Service Information Jeunesse et Animation de la Ville. Forum des Arts has been running annually since 2003 and promotes the work of young artists between the ages of 15-35. The Forum des Arts features performances, concerts, workshops and exhibitions, with the historic streets of Saint-Malo as a backdrop.

The festival acts as a chance for artists to network and profile their work on a larger platform. Work is not for sale, however prices of the pieces can be displayed during the exhibition.
