Skipton Art Series 2015

Skipton Art Series was launched this year to encompass the Skipton Open Studios, as well as additional visual art events throughout the 2015 and 2016 and is sponsored by long-term Jersey Arts Trust partner Skipton International.

2015 saw Jersey Arts Trust take a break from the Skipton Open Studios to pursue the Skipton Arts Series – the umbrella term that encompasses the Open Studios as well as other community arts events throughout the coming year. The 2015 programme included the Les P’tits Faîtchieaux project, where thousands of small clay figures were made by schools, community groups and the general public, which were then distributed to countries all around the world. The Art Series for 2015 was rounded up with the incredibly popular Jersey Projection Gallery, which saw some of Jersey’s most important work be shown together, for the first time, on the façade of Normans Commercial Buildings.

Over 15 collaborative art projects took place throughout 2015, involving a portrait project celebrating 40 years of Les Amis and a series of National Trust for Jersey Pop-up exhibitions. Skipton Art Series is a true community art lead programme, with 10 schools and four community groups, Les Amis, Jersey Mencap, Art in the Park and Jersey Blind Society, involved in projects throughout the year.

As well as many returning artists from previous years, including joint work by Skipton Open Studios veteran artists Gina Socrates and Nicola Lucas, the Series had at least 16 new and emerging artists participating in the year’s planned events.
